SPELLING BEE
To
continue a fun and educational tradition, the Horace Mann PTA will be
sponsoring a live 2008 Spring Spelling Bee competition for the 3rd
through 5th grades. The goal of PTA is to create both an anticipated
event that will promote school spirit and also provide an incentive to
study and review spelling words that have been selected from the
reading series of each respective grade.
While it certainly isn't a requirement that each child participate, we
hope that every child would want to participate to be selected to
represent his/her class in the competition.
To be a serious contender, we encourage your child to study their
grade-appropriate spelling words and those of the grade below.
These words can be found by clicking on the bees at the bottom of the
page.
Starting during the month of March, two spelling tests will be
administered by the teachers to those students who would like to
participate. Through this process of elimination, five students
from each class will be selected to compete against those selected from
the other classes within each grade.
There will be a prize for the winners of each grade. In addition,
the winners will be featured in the Beverly Hills Courier.
In March, once the process of selection is well underway, a flyer will
be sent home detailing the event that will be held in the auditorium,
the early evening of Thursday, April 10th, 2008.
Please encourage your children to participate and help make this event
so successful that it will not only become a long-lived tradition at
Horace Mann but will also inspire the other schools in the district to
imitate.
